Drucker School of Management: The Human Side of Management

Please join us on Tuesday, August 11, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm PDT for a virtual symposium on “The Human Side of Management,” the first event in a series of important dialogues that will explore the intersection of social equity and Drucker’s timeless principles. Drucker School Professor Bernie Jaworski and alumnae Maya Guice (MBA, ‘16) and Athena Chiera (EMBA, ’19) will share their insights in a panel discussion moderated by Interim Dean and Clinical Associate Professor Katharina Pick. Participants will have the opportunity to submit a question for our panelists to answer when completing registration. Questions will be addressed as time allows.

Our panelists:

Athena Chiera is the vice president of business development at Athena Engineering, Inc., a woman-, minority-owned business, specializing in mechanical HVAC construction and building automation for notoriously complicated environments like hospitals, laboratories, infrastructure, utility, and operational facilities. Chiera earned her executive MBA from the Drucker School in 2019. She is a member of the leadership committees on both the Southern California Minority Supplier Development Council and Women’s Business Enterprise National Council supporting entrepreneurship amongst women- and minority-owned companies.

Maya Guice has spent the last eight years working in a number of industries, ranging from media to real estate and, most recently, communications and design. Shortly after earning her MBA from the Drucker School, she moved to Berlin to further pursue professional interests in the arts and culture industry. Her next adventure will bring her back to California this fall, where she will serve as the marketing director at BRC Imagination Arts.

Bernie Jaworski is the Drucker Chair in Management and the Liberal Arts at the Drucker School of Management. He teaches Drucker Philosophy, a course included in the Drucker Signature Platform, as well as Customer Experience Management, and Marketing Strategy. His research interests include client management, leadership, management, marketing, and strategy. Jaworski received his PhD from the Joseph Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh and his BS from the University of Massachusetts.

Moderator: Katharina Pick is interim dean and clinical associate professor at the Drucker School. She teaches MBA and executive courses in Organizational Behavior and Theory, Leadership Development, Teams, Women in Leadership, and Design Thinking and the Creative Process. She also provides individual coaching for developing leaders across a variety of contexts including museum leadership and policing. She received her PhD in Organizational Behavior and MA in Sociology from Harvard University and holds an MSW from University of Southern California.
