CBMArts Arts and Culture Conversations: The Future of Art Fairs

Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 4:00 PM until 5:30 PMPacific Standard Time UTC -08:00

A bi-weekly conversation series on the issues that matter with the people that matter to artists and the organizations that support them, CBMArts presents ‘Arts and Culture Conversations’.

    The Future of Art Fairs

Perhaps the most significant driver for change and growth in the art world over the past two decades has been the proliferation of art fairs. Since the debut of Art Basel Miami Beach in 2002, the art market—particularly for contemporary art—has exploded and the business of art has evolved with the globetrotting art circuit becoming one of the most popular sectors of the larger experience economy. With COVID-19 making travel and large-scale events unfeasible, art fairs have quickly pivoted to grow their online platform presence and are rethinking their strategies. We will discuss short and long term visions for art fairs during and after the pandemic.

    Speakers:
    • Noah Horowitz, Director Americas, Art Basel Miami Beach
    • Sonya Yu, FOG Design + Art, San Francisco
    Moderator:
    • Kibum Kim, Program Director, Art Business, Claremont Graduate University and Partner of Commonwealth and Council Gallery, Koreatown
